Use advice for data set | Users of this dataset should pay attention to the weighted average CO2 emission factor generated during the electrolysis of aluminum, which is based on a distribution ratio of aluminum production using different processes within China. Special attention should be given to data from the year 2011 as it is the primary source for the carbon emission factors database for alumina and aluminum electrolysis processes. The dataset includes sub-databases for raw & auxiliary material consumption and waste generation, technological processes & equipment, materials & energy consumption in processes, and secondary energy production in self-provided thermal power plants. When modeling, users should include the scope of carbon anode consumption in the electrolysis process, PFCs emissions, and the production process of purchased electricity. It is also advised to consult Table 1 of the source literature for a detailed understanding of the database structure and to ensure the inclusion of all relevant technological factors for accurate lifecycle assessment. |
Technical purpose of product or process | The technical usage of the described process is for the production of liquid primary aluminum, employing the southern China power grid in the electrolysis process. Data selection and combination principles | On the basis of fully sorting out the production situation of alumina and electrolytic aluminum enterprises across the country, and in accordance with the principle of covering all representative processes and production capacities, and taking into full consideration the distribution of production capacities, nature of enterprises and other factors, we focused on selecting typical primary aluminum smelting enterprises in typical regions such as Henan, Shandong and Guangxi, and carried out an in-depth field survey, and formed a database of carbon emission factors for alumina and electrolytic aluminum, with the data of 2011 as the main body. The database of alumina production includes primary and secondary materials. The alumina production database includes four sub-databases: consumption of raw and auxiliary materials and waste generation, process technology and equipment, energy consumption of process materials, and secondary energy production of self-provided cogeneration plants.
