Geographical representativeness description

The characteristics of intensive pig breeding in Hubei Province are summarized through field investigation, that is, the pig production technology is mostly self-propagation and self-rearing, and the feeding mode of all in and all out is phased. There are various types of pig houses. Generally, mechanical ventilation is used in the pig house to prevent heat and cool down and keep warm and control the small environment in the house. Sows and piglets are raised in limited stalls and high beds, the average renewal rate is generally 35%-40%, and the service life of breeding pigs is 3-4 years. The diet is formulated into a full-priced feed according to the nutritional needs of the physiological stage, mainly corn and other grains, and feed raw materials are purchased from outside. Most of the breeds are foreign three-way cross-bred pigs (such as DLY), and more than 10,000 commercial pigs are put out annually. In daily management, dry cleaning and blistering feces are adopted to facilitate the separation of dry and wet. Manure treatment method uses dry manure compost, sewage anaerobic fermentation process to produce biogas. The 10,000 pig farm is one point distribution, more than 50,000 intensive pig farms take multi-point layout, breeding farm + fattening farm, weaning piglets use truck transport turnover.

Use advice for data set
Users of this data set should consider the methodological advice for different scales of pig production systems when analyzing the environmental impacts. Care must be taken to ensure that factors such as different pig house types, management measures, and manure treatment methods are accurately accounted for in modeling. Environmental impact assessments should be based on the gas production coefficients provided for different stages of pig production. For comparative purposes, adjust coefficients to a standard functional unit weight of 100kg when the field weight is inconsistent. This data should be used in conjunction with established models for pig production systems and the findings should contribute to strategic decision-making for environmental improvements and optimization.
Technical purpose of product or process
This data set describes large-scale intensive pig farming practices, which can be used in the development and assessment of pig farming systems. The applications of this are primarily for understanding flows, inputs, outputs, and environmental impacts of pig production, including types of pig housing, management strategies, source and composition of feed, and manure treatment methods. This information can be applied to improve the sustainability of pig farms, especially in the context of the Hubei Province, and to evaluate the environmental footprint of pig production technologies such as those that focus on different breeding scales from small to large-scale operations.

Hierarchy level
|
An important feature of the difference between large-scale intensive pig farming and traditional pig farming is that the production process realizes the flow type of balanced production, and the product mass and standardization. Due to different pig house types, different management measures, different feed sources and formulation technologies, and different methods of manure treatment, the environmental impact caused by the whole and key nodes of the pig production system of different scales has not been accurately understood. This chapter has systematically studied the pig production system model established in Chapter 2.

Time representativeness

Time representativeness description
According to the 2012 "China Animal Husbandry Yearbook", the pig breeding mode can be divided into retail breeding of 1 to 49 pigs per year; Small scale breeding of 50 to 499 pigs per year; Medium scale breeding of 500 to 9999 pigs per year; There are four types of large-scale breeding of more than 10,000 pigs annually.

Technology description including background system
The research object of commercial pig LCA established in this paper is commercial pig product system, so the objectives of commercial pig LCA should include the following aspects: 1) According to the production process of commercial pig, clarify the environmental impact types of key links or processes in the production process of commercial pig; 2) According to the characteristics of different production systems of commercial pigs, clarify the environmental impact scores of different production systems, and evaluate the environmental friendliness of different product systems through impact scores; 3) According to the environmental impact assessment results of the live pig production system, the improvement or optimization ways and suggestions are proposed.
