Use advice for data set | When utilizing the inventory data for multi-Si PV modules, ensure that the mean values are used if different data sources are encountered for specific materials. This guidance is necessary to maintain consistency and reliability in life cycle assessments. Data sources include academic literature, Environmental Impact Assessment Statements (EIAS), and industry reports pertinent to Chinese photovoltaic enterprises. For detailed LCA modelling, pay attention to geographical and technological relevance, validating and updating the data when applicable to ensure accurate representation of the assessed process. |
Technical purpose of product or process | The described industrial process involves the recycling and treatment of materials for the manufacturing of multi-crystalline silicon photovoltaic (multi-Si PV) modules. Specifically, glass is remelted, ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) undergoes thermal treatment, and aluminum is subject to remelting and chemical processing to allow their use as substitutes for virgin materials in the assembly of PV modules. Chemical treatments are also necessary for the recycling of silicon and silver as part of the production process for polysilicon and multi-Si PV cells. |

General comment on data set | Glass need to beremelted, EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetat) need thermal treatment, and aluminum need remetling and chemical treatment before they may substitute virgin materials in the module assembling process. Meanwhile, chemical treatment is necessary for silicon and silver before recycling in polysilicon production and multi-Si PV cell respectively. |

Data selection and combination principles | The inventory data of the multi-Si PV modules are collected from several sources: (1) Literatures including Fu (2013), which contain material inventory of several photovoltaic enterprises in Jiangsu province; Diao and Shi (2011), which contain material inventory of two photovoltaic enterprises in Beijing; He (2013), which contain material inventory of four photovoltaic enterprises in Gansu and Sichuan province. (2) Environment Impact Assessment Statements (EIAS) of multi-Si PV production companies from Sichuan (EIAS-Sichuan, 2008), Henan (EIAS-Henan, 2009) and Chongqing (EIAS-Chongqing, 2008). (3) Industry report of market foresight and investment prospect for China’s photovoltaic development (2014) and Industrial report of market foresight and investment prospect for China’s polysilicon development (2014). The mean value is applied when there are different data sources for specific materials. | ||||
