Compound fertilizers contain multiple nutrients in each individual granule. They differ from a blend of fertilizers mixed together to achieve a desired average nutrient composition. This allows farmers to spread compound fertilizer so that each granule delivers a mixture of nutrients as it dissolves in the soil. A compound fertilizer contains two or more essential plant nutrients and can include secondary nutrients and trace elements. The compound might be organic or inorganic. Organic compounds might include manure, fish and bone meal as well as compost. Inorganic fertilizers combine various chemicals in the manufacturing process.
