General comment | In the course of animal embryonic development, a tube-like structure known as the archenteron is formed during a phase called gastrulation. This structure essentially serves as the preliminary gut of the embryo. The archenteron is composed of an outer layer of cells that form the wall of the archenteron and the inner cavity, which is filled with a liquid called endolymph. The walls of the archenteron contain the cells that will eventually form the embryo's organs and tissues, as well as the nutrients and oxygen needed for its development. |
