General comment | Silicon nitride is a chemical compound of the elements silicon and nitrogen. Si 3 N 4 (Trisilicon tetranitride) is the most thermodynamically stable and commercially important of the silicon nitrides. It is a white, high-melting-point solid that is relatively chemically inert. Silicon nitride based ceramics are of particular use in engineering applications because of their excellent combination of properties. High hardness and wear resistance make them particularly attractive for tribological applications. |
