General comment | Hide glue is an adhesive of animal origin, obtained from collagen, a protein molecule found in animal hides or skins, mostly made of horse hides. It is one of the first known adhesives used in the history of mankind, with usage dating back to around 2000 BC. It is still popular among professionals and hobbyists alike, used in traditional crafts such as marquetry, furniture restoration and model building. The biggest benefit of hide glue is that it's reversible, meaning it can be reactivated by applying heat and moisture to the joint. |
