General comment | Ceramic containers are sculpted from finely textured, light-colored clay, then fired in a kiln at high temperatures. Once hardened, a fine layer of glaze is applied to its surface for a smooth, glossy finish, extending the pot's lifespan. Ceramic was first fired in high-heat kilns as far back as the 1700 BCE in China, during the Shang dynasty period. Ceramic pots tend to be made of denser, less porous earthen materials, and they are always glazed, both inside and out. |
