It is a white powder that consists of a polymer of formaldehyde and is used especially as a disinfectant. It is the informal name of polyoxymethylene, a polymer of formaldehyde. It is slowly formed as a white precipitate by condensation from the predominant species methanediol in solutions of formaldehyde. It is used chiefly as an antiseptic. |
