Sum Formula Mixture of metal oxides and silicon dioxide
General comment Steel slag is an industrial byproduct obtained from the steel manufacturing industry. It is produced in large quantities during steel-making operations that use electric arc furnaces. Steel slag can also be produced by smelting iron ore in a basic oxygen furnace. It is a by-product of steel making, produced during the separation of the molten steel from impurities in steel-making furnaces. The slag occurs as a molten liquid melt and is a complex solution of silicates and oxides that solidifies upon cooling.
