Ex-Cha Kwo Ling Kaolin Mine was a large open excavation to remove a local occurrence of the mineral kaolin or 'China Clay'. It was one of the longest operating mines in Hong Kong, from 1928 to its closure in 1983. The site is now under development, with site formation and infrastructure works being carried out. The developments at ex-Cha Kwo Ling Kaolin Mine Site (Phase 2) and Cha Kwo Ling Village will provide about 2 250 and 4 500 flats upon completion.
