General comment | A papermaking blanket, also known as a couch sheet, is a specially designed paper used in the process of making handmade paper. It is utilized to press a newly dipped sheet of paper to gently remove water and aid in drying. Functioning similarly to blotting papers, couch sheets absorb excess moisture and can be dried and reused multiple times. In industrial paper mills, a similar material known as 'mill fabric' acts as a conveyor belt for pulp, made of durable materials that allow water to pass through while preventing insect and rot damage when used in other applications such as gardening. |
