It was the first commercial synthetic alcohol, produced in 1920 by chemists at the Standard Oil Company of New Jersey. It is used especially as a solvent and rubbing alcohol. It is an alcoholic mixture intended for external use as an antiseptic, usually containing 70% by volume of absolute alcohol or isopropyl alcohol. |
