General comment | Glycolonitrile is produced by reacting formaldehyde with hydrogen cyanide under acidic conditions. This reaction is catalysed by base. Glycolonitrile polymerizes under alkaline conditions above pH 7.0. As the product of polymerization is an amine with a basic character, the reaction is self-catalysed. Glycolonitrile is an organic compound with the structural formula of HOCH 2 CN, which is the simplest cyanohydrin that is derived by. Glycolonitrile is the result of reaction between formaldehyde and aqueous sodium cyanide in the presence of mineral acid. |
