General comment | The electrolysis of ZnCl2, dissolved in one or more fused alkali metal chlorides, is a method for the production of zinc metal. Best results were obtained with a bath composed of 38 mole-pct ZnCl2, 31 mole-pct NaCl, and 31 mole-pct KCl. Electrolysis is carried on at an average cathode current density of 36.5 amp per sq ft. The electrolyzing solution contains about 135 g per liter of zinc and is regulated to maintain an acid concentration between 105 and 110 g per liter sulphuric acid. |
