General comment | N-acyl amides are primarily involved in cell-to-cell communication in biological systems. They interact with N-acyl amides such as N-arachidonoyl ethanolamide (Anandamide), N-arachidonoyl dopamine and others. These amides can be formed from a fatty acid and ethanolamine with the release of a molecule of water. Acyl chlorides have the general formula RCOCl. The chlorine atom is easily replaced by an -NH 2 group to make an amide. There are five synthetic routes to produce amides: nitrile conversion and the acyl nucleophilic substitution reactions of acid halides, acid anhydrides, and carboxylic acids. |
