General comment | Lumber Core Plywood, also known as Blockboard in much of Europe, uses primarily softwood lumber for the core, making it substantially lighter than veneer core plywood or MDF. It is used a great deal in the marine and aerospace industries where weight is a chief concern. Lumber Core plywood consists of a face & back veneer, then a layer of crossband veneer, with the edge-glued lumber in the center. It should be used for the bending strength and screw-hold ability. It uses thick strips of hardwood, often Basswood, glued into a larger panel and then face veneered. |
